On April 9th, 2024, the Tehaleh community welcomed a vibrant addition to its heart with the opening of Post & Pour, a unique combination of café, bistro, and tap house, envisioned to become a key gathering spot against the picturesque backdrop of Mt. Rainier. In a recent conversation, Melanie Clark, co-owner of Post & Pour, painted a picture of a space designed not just to serve up exceptional food and beverages but to foster connections within the community. “This isn’t just about opening another café; it’s about creating a communal space where residents can come together to share stories, laugh, and build lasting relationships,” Melanie articulated.
The transformation of the building known as The Post, which previously housed the Caffe D’arte and Tehaleh Welcome Center for a dozen years, signifies a fresh chapter with significant plans underfoot. Melanie and her team envision it as a hub for all residents, aiming to hold diverse events that cater to the varied interests of Tehaleh’s community members. “We’re looking beyond the concept of a café or restaurant. Our ambition is for Post & Pour to become a ‘third place’ for people—a place that offers more than just food and drink but enriches our sense of community,” shared Melanie.
The new owners are exploring initiatives like reusable cup programs, waste reduction measures, and incorporating outdoor elements into their service offerings. “Our plans include trail packs for adventurers and outdoor events to connect our visitors with the breathtaking natural surroundings. We’re bringing the spirit of the outdoors, which we dearly love, right into the heart of our establishment,” explained Melanie. This approach not only promises an enhanced customer experience but also aligns with broader environmental sustainability efforts within the community.
Supporting small businesses and local sourcing forms the cornerstone of Post & Pour’s operational philosophy. By collaborating with local artisans and entrepreneurs such as Landshark Woodworks and Hot Off The Press and looking to utilize the services of BrownDog Coffee Roasters, Post & Pour aims to showcase and uplift the local economy. “We’re incredibly excited about the opportunity to highlight and work alongside Tehaleh businesses. We believe that we all thrive when we support each other,” Melanie stated. This initiative is set to accelerate community integration and economic vibrancy.
Moreover, Post & Pour is keen on fostering an inclusive atmosphere by offering various community events catering to various interests, such as wine and yoga sessions or book clubs. Melanie emphasized the importance of community engagement and open dialogue to ensure that the café reflects the communal voice and evolving needs. “We’re focusing on building a space that welcomes every member of our community, with activities and events that bring people together in meaningful ways,” she mentioned. Drawing on feedback and collaborative discussions, Post & Pour is positioning itself as a dynamic and responsive community partner.
Transitioning from the previous Caffé D’arte, the new team is dedicated to retaining the essence of the space while introducing improvements and expanded offerings, including beer and wine options and fresh menu items. With design enhancements underway to elevate functionality without compromising the familiar atmosphere and the continued involvement of Kendra, a staple of the café for 12 years, as the manager, the endeavor is to make the transition smooth and inclusive. “We are navigating the upgrades with great care and consideration for our community’s needs and comfort,” shared Melanie. As Post & Pour goes on this journey, it promises a place for refreshment and a venue where the Tehaleh community can cultivate a more profound sense of belonging and shared joy.
